Strategy, Set Design & Production Management
CONTEXT
Every four years, Lund University comes alive with Lundakarnevalen: a great festival and celebration. Entirely organized and executed by the students themselves, it’s one of Sweden's most iconic and vibrant student traditions.
MY ROLE
As Decor Master for the wine tavern Sista Oasen I owned the visual and physical build, aligning it with the annual brand book.
I translated the theme into an immersive space, built the venue from scratch, from custom bar desks to props, and led a crew of 25 builders through a four-month project with daily hands-on factory sessions after school.
Concept Development & Color Integration
Rooted in a post-apocalyptic narrative, where Sista Oasen ("The Last Oasis") stands as the final sanctuary in a desert wasteland, the venue was designed around four distinct spaces, each tied to the brand books’s four-color palette of blue, pink, yellow, and green.
The Waterhole: Naturally captured an aquatic theme featuring water elements.
The Little Oasis: Secluded bar with a lush jungle aesthetic and dominant green colorway.
The Wine Bar: Middle Eastern bazaar concept with shaded fabric awnings paired with rick pink reminiscent of wine.
The Restaurant: Warm, Arabian Nights-inspired dining space with radiant yellow theme.
Production Management
Teamed up with my builder, I oversaw the logistics, measurements, ordering, and material distribution for the entire space. My goal during our intensive build weeks in the factory was twofold: to keep operations running smoothly and to keep spirits high, serving as a reliable anchor and source of encouragement.
Building this space was a true team effort, and receiving a stellar five-star review from Lundagård belongs entirely to the wonderful student crew who brought this vision to life.
Budget Management & Upcycling
To stay within budget, I searched a resourceful, low-cost strategy focused on upcycling. This led me to Facebook Marketplace, where I secured a large volume of free wooden pallets. Utilizing these pallets, we constructed functional and aesthetic venue elements:
Queue Dividers & Planters: Fences built to naturally guide visitor flow and manage lines.
Custom Seating: Handcrafted pallet sofas, my personal pride and the centerpiece of the build (see image below). These were decorated with cushions and blankets to make more comfortable.
“The location and atmosphere are absolute best among the pubs, according to Lundagård. Super cozy!”
